Vision and values

We're ensuring that our vision and values become embedded in the way we do business, the way our employees work and in the way we treat others. Here we define our guiding principles and what they mean in practice.

Our vision - Professional people working together to deliver quality services for the benefit of the research community

Professional people working together

The SSC is finding and developing ways in which its people can work as teams by developing and sharing knowledge and expertise using professional working practises. At the SSC, the word professional describes the way people work.

Deliver quality services

The quality of service delivery is crucial to support the world class research that the Research Councils both support and undertake. Quality is something that cannot be compromised as the consequences of failure in delivery could be far-reaching, such as supplies not reaching a base in remote or hostile environments.

Benefit of the research community

One of the key drivers for establishing the SSC is to deliver increased benefit to research, some of which will derive from savings made through combining resource in one place and others from sharing and working together on utilising best practice across the various work streams.

The SSC values

  • Flexibility

Being adaptable and willing to take on new tasks and responsibilities; always keen try something new. Being able to modify approach or style to achieve the goal.

  • Service excellence

Provides a courteous and professional service, and consistently strives for excellent service delivery.

  • Valuing self and others

Recognises the contributions of others, deals with people honestly, with dignity and fairness and values diversity.

  • Empowerment and accountability

Ability to involve others effectively and giving them responsibility to achieve specific goals whilst providing coaching and advice. Involving people in decisions and thereby obtaining their commitment to the decisions.

  • Positive engagement

Acting on own initiative, and demonstrating energy and determination to achieve results.
